2004: Private Commission – An Engagement Ring For Alison
White Gold Engagement Ring with Central Princess Cut Diamond & Graduating Pink Sapphire Accent Stones:
18ct White Gold, 5.6mm Square Diamond & x8 Graduating Pink Sapphires
Commissioned by Alison & Boris for their engagement. Alison was one of my night-class students during my time teaching at Richmond Adult Community College in London and it was lovely to be able to make this ring for her. The story is though that by the time I came to make it, I had moved to the West of Ireland and it had to be delivered to a ‘wee’ village in Scotland. There was literally only days to go to get the ring to her in time and so I had to have it couriered over – however the courier got snowed-in somewhere along the line and it was only by luck that it actually reached her in time for the wedding!!!
This ring represents one of my first more ‘traditional’ style engagement rings – although at the time of its design, it was more common to have a central coloured stone with diamonds down the sides rather than the way we went with a central diamond and coloured accent stones. This ring also started my passion for using Pink Sapphires – which are still my favourite – thanks Alison!!
